Creating with Sarah Hurley's Beautiful Botanical Stamps

Happy Friday!

I must share some work I did a couple of months ago with some stamp sets that Sarah Hurley designed. They are the Beautiful Botanicals range and consist of A5 packs of clear cling stamps.

I used one set with a patterned background and inks to create this:

Another set I used with chalk inks and Heidi Swapp Color Shine Spritz to create this:

Finally, I used distressed inks with the stamps to create this:

I'd like to end this blog post with a note of thanks to all those of you who have taken the time to read, comment on or simply visit my blog throughout the year.

Wishing you and your loved ones a happy, peaceful and healthy New Year!

Enjoy!

Thanks! - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy Friday!

It's been another mad week but I've accomplished almost all I set out to do so I'm happy!  School holidays have begun and we've just been to see 'Rogue One'.  All three men, big and small, are Star Wars fans and I must admit I do like a good Star Wars film but I won't ruin it for those of you who are going to see it.

'Thanks' is the theme for this week's Daring Cardmakers Challenge. It's an apt challenge for me as I've got a number of thank you cards to send to family and friends following my recent birthday.

I've often said I like collections which go together so I don't have to think as hard about co-ordinating colours and embellishments etc especially if time is limited. Doodlebug do a range of essential packs which contain papers, stickers, embellishments and an alphabet sheet. The papers are all double sided and the only additional item I used was the pink card which I diecut into a circle.

Although the glitter alphabet were stickers, I used silicone glue to give a little additional dimension. A simple but colourful make. I do love my bright colours.

I hope you'll join in with the challenge here where there's a lot more inspiration from the Design Team.

May the Force be with you!

Going Crackers! 'Decorate it' Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy Friday!

I've had a hectic but fulfilling week with the children's Christmas parties and pantomimes, meetings, celebrating my birthday and working on Christmas commissions.

The Daring Cardmakers are stepping away from the cards one last time this year. The challenge was about adding those little extras to 'Decorate it!'.  I decided to use a ready die cut cracker from Stix 2 Anything.  I used it as my base and added ribbons, foil tape and a die cut snowflake that I covered in gold glitter.  I added a metallic red candy to the centre.

I do hope that if you've made anything suitable you'll join in with the Challenge here and check out the other fabulous inspirational makes this week.

Enjoy your weekend!

Textured Mini Wreath - Daring Cardmakers Elemental Challenge

Happy December!

The beginning of a month means an elemental challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers.  Basically, you choose 3 elements from the picture you can find here.

From the picture, I opted to use the colours, snowflakes and a wreath.  I used a die for the wreath base and then threaded ribbon through it to add texture. I added die cut snowflakes in 2 different sizes and finished off with black and clear gems to add that extra sparkle. I mounted the wreath on a snowflake embossed piece of card and used a die cut sentiment which I put on so it bowed outwards.

Once I'd made the wreath I actually found it a challenge as to how to use it on the card. I tried a number of variations but settled on this one in the end!

Thank you for taking the time to read my posts and your comments are much appreciated.

Poinsettias Demonstration at the Sarah Hurley LIVE! Event

Happy Tuesday!

A couple of weeks ago I was given the opportunity to demo at the Sarah Hurley Live! event in Loughton and I've finally got around to blogging about it!

Aren't poinsettia on trend at the moment? They're popping up everywhere. I think this time of year they raise their heads anyway, but a little more so this year. So, no points for guessing what I decided to demo - Poinsettias with a Ferrero Rocher centre!

I used a free SVG file to to make the poinsettias and I must convey a huge thank you to Sarah's Team for their help towards my demo.

I curled the leaves with a pencil and gave an option of glitter glue and/or metallic inks for the edges because you know I love a bit of sparkle, especially on a festive make.  A Ferrero Rocher was placed in the centre but you could just as easily use a battery operated tea light if you wanted.

I showed how you could use multiple poinsettias and build them into a wreath which could be put on your door or as a table decoration as shown blow.

The event was extremely well organised from the onset with Sarah and her Team welcoming guests and available for questions throughout the day.  Breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea was welcomed by all.

The talks were both interesting and thought provoking.  I was particularly inspired by the 'Making it in the Craft Industry' discussion with a panel of experts who gave some sound advice and tips.  Sarah's talks - 'My Story' and '25 Mad, Bad and Crazy Hilarious Things That Have Happened to Me in the Business'! gave me an insight into Sarah's hectic life and her personal journey through the crafting industry.

I very much enjoyed the networking element of the day.  I met a lot of talented crafters from all areas of the crafting industry.  As a bonus, I met one of my fellow Sarah Hurley Community Design Team members, Loti Bradley, who is pictured second from the left in the photo above.

There were some fabulous competitions and prizes offered throughout the day.  I was fortunate to win a book called 'Lean In' by Sheryl Sandberg (chief operating officer of Facebook) about empowering women to achieve their full potential.  This will be the book for January in Sarah's Book Club so look out for my review!

Needless to say, I'm already looking forward to the next Sarah Huley event!

Holiday Tag And Humans - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy Friday!

A beautiful sunny start to the day. I've got my 4 year old's Christmas play to go to this afternoon. When I asked him what character he would be playing, he replied "a human"!!!! Wonder if it was a choice between humans and aliens?! It seems early for a Christmas play to me but I think there are a lot of festive activities to fit in before the end of term.

On to my inspirational tag for the Daring Card Makers Challenge this week. It's the second of the 'Step Away From The Cards' challenges, the first being bags and boxes a couple of weeks ago. This time it's creating gift tags.

I used a ready made tag with an aperture I had in my stash and used the Sizzix dies I got in the sale a couple of months ago. At the time I thought I'd spent too much (as you do) but they're worth it as I've used them a lot (that's my justification in any case!).

To embellish the tag I used felt in 2 different colours for the holly which I die cut and added painted wooden berries.  A little bling on the snowflakes and twine completed it. Both the lime green and white are glitter card although you can't see from the photo as well.

I hope that you'll join in with the challenge here and see the other creations made by the Design Team.

Let It Snow! - Christmas Song or Carol DCM Challenge

Happy Friday!

It was a sunny but chilly start to the day here in Essex. I don't mind the cold so much if the sun is out. Sunshine is magic - makes me happy :)  We even had a few flakes of snow in the afternoon.

On to the latest challenge at the Daring Cardmakers! This week's challenge is to draw inspiration from a Christmas song or carol. The song I chose is an old one by Frank Sinatra - Let it Snow. Thing is, I can't get it out of my head! It happens when I walk into a shop sometimes and I hear something playing in the background.

For my inspirational card I've used the Trimcraft Dear Santa range by Helz Cuppleditch for the background paper, doily and stamp set. I've coloured the stamped image with First Edition markers and added glitter glue to the snowflakes and ground on the image.

You can see the fabulous cards the rest of the Design Team have come up to inspire you further here!

Step Away From The Cards (Bags and Boxes) - DCM Challenge

Happy Friday!

I'm still getting over the Sarah Hurley Live! event yesterday. It was packed full of information, inspiration, networking and creativity.  I was fortunate enough to demonstrate there as part of the Sarah Hurley Community.

On to this week's theme for the DCM Challenge which is 'Step Away From The Cards'.  We were asked to make/decorate gift bags or boxes.

I actually needed to decorate a box for a gift I'd bought my sister in law. I used washi tape in 2 contrasting colours to create a central border and topped with a die cut butterfly. I cut the butterfly in both plain cardstock and some foiled velum. To embellish I used a little twine and a flower. It was a quick and easy way to transform a plain box.

You can see the wonderful creations by the Team here. I hope you'll join in!

November Elemental Inspiration - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy November!

I'm back as Guest Designer on the Daring Cardmakers blog.  This week's challenge is an inspirational one for November that can be found here.  The elements I used were colours, textures and tree.  I love vibrant colours so this challenge inspired me to create this:

I used the inverted image from a new Sizzix die in gold and backed it with turquoise glitter, purple embossed and pink pearlised card.

I couldn't find an appropriate sentiment and it got me thinking, does a card need a sentiment? You can clearly see this is a Christmas Card so I went without and I'll be doing a lot more cards without sentiments too!

My other current love at the moment is non traditional colours for Christmas cards........

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and your comments are always appreciated.

Magic & Sparkle

Happy Saturday!

Half term is in full swing here with one week down and another to go!  We've been out and about with my parents so the boys and I have been thoroughly spoilt!

I'd like to share a card I made at a recent demo at The Range for Trimcraft. I used all the elements from the Magic & Sparkle range.  It's a beautiful range as the paper pad has a lot of foiled and glittered sheets so half the job is done for you!

I used the torn edge dies to create the base for the shaker part of the card.

I'm loving gold and silver doilies - perfect for Christmas crafting!  My other current love is that of washi tape. I can never have enough - it's so useful and I think I've sold it to those who stopped at my demos too!

From next week my blogging will be back on track as I will be on the Daring Cardmakers Blog as Guest Design Team member.  I would also like to enter this card into this week's DCM Challenge - Sparkle & Shine as I'm sure you'll agree there's a fair bit of it in this card. Join in with the challenge

Halloween Pop Up Box Card

Happy Tuesday!

Yes, I really am blogging. It feels like it's been so long and it probably has!

Today, I'd like to share a fun card I made for the Fiskarettes seasonal challenge. It's a pop up box card that I've decorated with various Halloween related die cuts.

had to use orange, purple, black and green as part of the challenge. I enjoyed making it and I think crafting should be fun shouldn't it?

Hopefully, I'm back on track with my blogging as my finger is out of the bandage which makes it much easier to craft.

Mister Smith's Workshop Birthday Card

Happy September!

Wow! September already? I don't know where the summer holidays went. We've had a great break, back to school on Wednesday. My youngest is starting school full time. A lot of mixed emotions going on as I'll miss our 1:1 time in the afternoons but it'll be good to have time to myself during the day.

Speaking of family, my brother and family came over from the States last week and left early this morning. We've had a blast and as it was his birthday I'm sharing a card I made for him.

I've used the Docrafts Mister Smith's Workshop collection and added stamped sentiments. I thought twine went well so I added some of that and distress inks for the background.

I've got a huge list of things to do before Wednesday.........

Crafting with the Geometric Kraft Collection

Happy Friday!

I was recently looking for papers that would work for male cards. I've been a fan of the Papermania Geometric collections since they came out and had some papers from the Geometric Neon Collection that I enjoyed using. I just happened to come across a pre loved Kraft collection pack at a good price and had to have it!

My first creation was made for my Mum to give to my brother on his birthday.

The second card I made was a commission for someone getting a new job.

There are 3 alphabet sticker sheets in the pack which co-ordinate really well but I found the adhesive wasn't great on them so had to add glue which defeated the purpose. I used chalk ink around the layers to make them stand out a little more.

For both these cards I've used foiled vellum as part of the layering. I'm loving vellum at the moment, especially if it's foiled!

My final card using the collection was made for a 60th Birthday.

Thank you for looking and enjoy the bank holiday weekend!

Jingle Bells!

Happy Saturday!

It was a beautifully warm and sunny day yesterday. I was sat with the patio door ajar making Christmas cards! For us crafters Christmas starts early and I know many of you start much earlier but I'm not one of those.......

However, I couldn't wait to start creating with all the new Trimcraft Christmas collections that have been launched. The card I'm sharing today is from the Winter Blooms collection.

I've made a gap card using a wooden frame from the collection as a focal point. I used contrasting Happy Christmas washi tape also from Trimcraft. I love washi tape and so I was really excited to get a few rolls of the stuff (it doesn't take a lot I know!).

As with many of Trimcraft's collections, they come with an array of co-ordinating items which make it so easy to create.

I have a weekend of demos so hopefully I'll be sharing some of my samples from the other collections when I get time to take some photos.

Crochet Away - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy Friday!

Well, it's my last GDT post with the very talented ladies over at Daring Cardmakers and you can see what they've made here.  I've thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and above all being inspirational. The month has gone so fast!

The theme for this challenge was to take inspiration from crochet. I decided to go shabby chic for this one!

I used a crochet doily as well as papers with printed crochet doilies. I love embellishments as I'm still a little girl at heart so used twine and a resin rose this time. The edges were distressed with scissors and then inked with distress ink.

The card is actually for a couple I've known for many years - a true love story!

Doodle, Doodle, Do! - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy Friday!

I'm sharing a card I made as Guest Designer for the Daring Cardmakers Challenge this week. The theme was to add a doodle. I'm forever doodling! I think I started when I was at school, I used to doodle whilst doing my homework or revising.....thankfully, I still passed my exams!

My doodle was inspired by the intricate henna designs that I love having applied at special occasions like weddings. I've used my trusty Fiskars punches and a sheet from the Trimcraft Love Story pad.

In the past I've doodled frames on cards but never had the urge to do anything larger. This challenge made me use a skill (if you can call it that!!!) that I wouldn't normally use but I'd certainly use again.

Strawberries & Cream - Daring Card Makers

Happy Friday!

The summer holidays are in full swing and it's great we've had glorious sunshine. We've been out for the past couple of days enjoying the sun.

On to my inspirational card for the Daring Cardmakers, you can see more inspiration here. The theme this week is in line with the summer. Strawberries and cream - yum! I love strawberries, especially with cream, and I remember going to pick your own fruit farms as a child with my family.

I've used a mini kraft card for the background and my trusty Fiskars punches for the strawberries. I embossed them to give texture. I used an appropriate 'Thank You Berry Much' for the sentiment.

Let's Have A Summer Party - Daring Cardmakers

Happy Friday!

It's been a manic week with lots of school events coupled with celebrating Eid which marks the end of the month of fasting. The boys and I baked cakes for our neighbours. As a result, I'm behind on crafting, visiting blogs and the dreaded housework!

So, on with my inspiration for this week's Daring Cardmakers Challenge of a Summer Party which can be found here.

I have decided to go with a typical summer tea party. I made bunting with washi tape and used Kanban toppers together with cake embellishments that I've had in my stash for ages.

Daring Cardmakers Elemental Challenge

Happy July - let's hope it's a sunny one!

I'm very pleased to be a Guest Design Team member over on Daring Cardmakers for July.  I'm working with a very talented group of people.

This week's challenge is an Elemental Instrumental challenge which is a mood board full of all things summer!

This is my take on the fun challenge. I've used free papers printed from the Papercraft Inspirations website as I didn't have anything suitable in my stash. The yellow backing paper is an old SU sheet.

The flip flops and glasses are also elements from the same free print outs which I fussy cut.

I used glossy accents on the sunglasses and flip flops although you can't tell that well from the photo.  I added a paper flower and pearl to the flip flops to make them look like mine!

Hope you'll come and see the other inspirational cards and add your own to the challenge.

All Things Foil and Glitter

Happy Thursday!

I'm very excited. I was sent items from Stix 2 Anything and asked to make samples that will be displayed on their show on Create & Craft today. I've seen a couple on the website already.

The first lot of samples were made using a specific kit which included glitter, beads, die cut stars, double sided strong tape, card stock, glue and foil.

The second lot of samples were made using this:

I enjoyed experimenting with the craft iron along with the adhesive sheets and intend to do another detailed blog post in the future. These are the samples I made using it:

I kept the cards simple so the foiling was the most prominent feature on them.

A Gift Made With Scraps

Happy Saturday!

I almost didn't get round to blogging this week. How regularly should you blog? A friend advised as regularly as possible and she posts a few times a week. I can't manage that. It's not that I don't have makes to blog about, more the time taken to write the blog and of course visit other blogs. Thoughts?

Anyway, today I'd like to share a simple gift I made for a friend. It's a framed project. I've used various scraps of paper in the same colour way under the punched hearts. I stamped a sentiment and used twine and a rose to embellish.

It's on the Fiskarettes UK FB page today as it was one of my DT submissions.

Father's Day Cards With Free Printables

Happy Friday!

I'm sharing a couple of Father's Day cards made using the free printables that a lot of companies offer.

The first is using the Docrafts printables. I use these quite often when I'm stuck for a particular theme that I'm working on. They offer a mix of papers and sentiments.

The second is using the Crafters Companion downloads. I'm new to these but they're proving to be useful as they're not just papers but toppers and sentiments as well.

I've only shown examples using free printables from a couple of companies but they are offered by many more.

Happy crafting!

A Trio of Birthday Cards

Happy Monday!

What did I say? Half term will end and the sun will shine. Beautiful outside today. Collected little one from pre school and we're in the garden. I'm taking a break from bug hunting...........

I was sent a box of goodies from the Sarah Hurley range. It was an introduction to her products. As I've got so many birthdays coming up in the Summer months I thought I'd combine using the lovely goodies with the birthdays!

I was sent four different themed packs to use. This particular one has mocha, peach and cream tones. I love the geometric prints and the feathers - what's more, they're both current trends.

I've used a lot of layers in my cards and added some subtle additions but to be honest the papers really didn't need much else. They're extremely good quality with a slight texture to them and a good weight.

I'm working with the rest of the goodies from my box and will blog when I've completed. For now though, I'm off to chase butterflies - enjoy your day!

Pretty in Pink Baby Card

Happy Thursday!

It's not like me to blog this fast but I've spent all morning working on this and I thought I may as well share it! That's on top of looking after my eldest who has come down with the chicken pox. My youngest only recovered and went back to school on Monday.....Glad it's over though.

The card is made with circles of differing sizes and the hood of the pram is a concertina of paper secured with a button.

I used the pink Trimcraft Back to Basics Goody Bag for the papers and white buttons. I love the bags as they come in a range of colours and contain sentiments, buttons, gems, papers, a project sheet and really good quality card blanks and envelopes.

Golfing Father's Day Card

Happy Wednesday!

I'm sharing a DT card that was featured on the Fiskarettes FB page on Friday.

I know a lot of Dads that play golf so I decided to make a card incorporating a golf ball as I knew I could emboss the card to make it look more realistic.

I used chalk ink for the background which I really enjoyed, using a makeshift stencil for the hill outlines.

I cut the grass by hand and layered it to give a 3D effect. I did the same with the golf tee, cutting layers by hand.

For the sentiment I used a stamp from a set I got with a Docrafts magazine - it's a really useful one for Father's Day cards. I die cut the rest of sentiment from the Trimcraft alphabet dies.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my post and your comments are much appreciated.

Personalised Door Hangers

Happy Friday!

June already, where's the year going?! Half term is almost at an end. Despite the dire weather we've managed to entertain ourselves.

Today, I'd like to share a couple of door hangers I made. The first I made for a birthday present and it was very well received. I think personalised items go down well in general as gifts. I used decomaché papers for the base and added a photo, frame, flowers, ribbon and a brad.

The second was a project I did for the Fiskarettes DT. This time I painted the hanger then added a paper from the FE Love Story pad. I made the ladybirds using a circle punch. I embossed the wings and dabbed them with an alcohol marker for the spots.  Again, I personalised the hanger using wooden alphabet letters that I painted.

I really enjoyed making these and intend to make a couple for my neices who are coming over from America next month.

Flower Posy Trifold Shutter Card Tutorial

Happy Saturday!

I've got a tutorial on a Trifold shutter card today. It was featured on the Fiskarettes UK FB page on Monday.

I know lots of people use dies for different styles of cards but I don't have a lot of dies nor a large die cutting machine. To be honest, I enjoy working from templates! This is the template I used which my husband transferred on the computer from my handwritten notes (he has his uses!):

Once cut out and folded, it should look like this:

I matt and layered the card using the Trimcraft First Edition Pretty Posy papers which co-ordinate so well with each other.

I made flowers using the Fiskars Large Flower Power Punch and the Eglantine Small Lever Punch and then just pinched them to give them a 3D shape:

I added a stamped sentiment, ribbon, gems and leaves to finish the card:

I was so pleased when another Fiskarettes UK member made a card using my tutorial and sent me a photo - it made my day! Thank you Veronica.

Fiskarettes DT Cards

Happy Saturday!

I'm super behind on blogging - life just gets in the way sometimes :) I've a couple of cards for the Fiskarettes DT to share today.

The first is a card that was on the Fiskarettes UK page yesterday for Fellas Friday using the Trimcraft Blue Skies papers. I love that the papers are in a particular colour-way but have so many differing designs in the pack.

I've matt and layered the papers with silver card stock and used the pale blue frame and buttons from the same Blue Skies range. There are a lot of co-ordinating embellishments in the range including the sentiments which I've used.

Finally, I added twine, Fiskars eyelets and embossed and distressed a section of the card to add further texture.

The second card was featured on Fiskarettes UK Scraps Saturday last week. I used glittered card scraps although you can't see the glitter very well on the photo. I didn't want to ruin the pattern I'd created by putting a sentiment on top, so I made a tab on the side that I stamped. Both the butterflies and circles are punched with Fiskars punches.

I hope you enjoy your weekend, it's supposed to be wonderful weather! We're having a BBQ later.

Thank you for looking and any comments are much appreciated.

The school Easter holidays began Wednesday afternoon so my craft time has been cut down drastically! Actually, it's lots of fun doing things with the boys but don't tell them!

Today I'd like to share an Easter card I made for the Fiskarettes UK DT. It's a simple aperture card with a cute chick peeking out. I used the free Trimcraft Easter downloadable papers which are great fun to use.

Thank you for taking the time to look and any comments are much appreciated.
